The palace is located in Abadía. It has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site since 1931. As the history of the Abbey tells it, this palace was initially a fortress used by the Templars, later becoming an Abbey of Cistercian monks. In the 10th century the town and the palace passed into the hands of the House of Alba, transforming the old building and turning it into a palace. It was with the Casa de Alba that it became a cultural and artistic center of great importance, a literary academy for Italian and Flemish artists, and attended by, among others, Lope de Vega and Garcilaso de la Vega. The highlight of the building is its Mudejar patio in perfect condition. The ground floor has tumida horseshoe arches supported by pillars with square moldings as bases with pyramidal capitals with sculptural decoration. The arches of the upper gallery are segments typical of the 00th century and with the heraldic shields of the House of Alba in the corners. The Renaissance garden was created as a symbol of prestige to exalt the fame and figure of the great Duke of Alba. It was a space in which architectural and sculptural constructions, paintings and stuccos were mixed, with different plant species, a variety of trees, water games and artifices, gazebos and monumental fountains. Currently it is very deteriorated and only some remains of the wonderful garden remain. The Palace can be visited on Mondays (except holidays) from 11:15 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. Free admission.
