    Moderate

    575m / 575m
  • Horizontal distance: 14.4 km

  • Type of tour: Round trip

The route lasts 4,10 hours (14,4km), the difficulty is medium, the type of route is a path, and the landscape is full of fruit trees and chestnut and oak forests, highly recommended during the flowering season. This route ascends from 600 meters to more than 1200 meters, it is therefore of medium difficulty but with numerous attractions that justify its completion: It coincides, almost two kilometers, with the GR 10 that descends from the Port of Honduras, along the so-called “ charcoal road” because it was the route they used to bring charcoal from the neighboring Jerte Valley. In addition, the itinerary runs through altitudes from which we have a global perspective of the Ambroz Valley, we clearly see the Vía de la Plata, the pastures that surround it, the Gabriel y Galán reservoir and further in the distance the Sierras de Hurdes and Gata. Finally, it must be reflected that Gargantilla is next to Casas del Monte, where the cultivation of the cherry tree has been most developed, and it is between orchards dedicated to this tree where part of the route runs. If it is flower season, the spectacle of flowering is secured and it will still be interesting for the walker to pay attention to the “terracing” of the land to retain the soil and water that this fruit tree needs. Retaining walls of the land can be seen, of notable magnitude.
